Fourth being Verve's 4th studio album and their 2008 release was their first release since their 1997 release Urban Hymns. The booklet contains no lyrics but does contain a list of whom plays what and many fine photographs of the band. The sound is a mix of Alternative rock, Psychadelic Rock, Shoegazing and Space Rock. The album spawned 2 singles, i.e., "Love is Noise" and "Rather Be". Allmusic gave it 3/5 and Rolling Stone 4/5. 4/5.
I love this record. It's got a progressive vibe that I like and Verve's trippy rythmns and vocals are always fresh and exciting. Of course Forth has been practically ignored by the mainstream because the mainstream is only interested in crap.I'm so happy The Verve got back to make this record. I was starting to lose hope in good rock music.
The only time I listen to these songs is when they come up on random on my itunes. Love is Noise6. "I should listen to Forth by The Verve" never pops into my head. I don't know what it is about these songs. Appalachian SpringsWell there you have it. Sit and Wonder2.
Oh well, here are some key tracks in no particular order.1.
There are some tracks that I find it hard to enjoy but most of them I absolutely fell in love with the moment I heard them.
Noise Epic8.
I can't listen to the songs willingly.
I See Houses7.
Like I said, I don't know what it is about these songs.
I love them but can't make a conscious effort to listen to them.
Valium Skies10.
A review that is a year too late to help anyone but oh well.
A Brilliant return. It's both an emotional and powerful listening experience. Lead singer Richard Ashcroft has been compared to Chris Martin has being equal in signing voice, creativity, and song writting ability. I bought the cd without having heard a single track, i popped it in and i could not believe my ears when i heard the opening to Love is Noise. I highly recommend this album. My jaw literally dropped i had never heard anything quite like that, i kept playing the begin to it over and over again. I have been a fan of The Verve ever since i first heard Bitter Sweet Symphony. I absolutely love the keyboard and guitar in this cd.
I got through the entire album and was very very pleased and suprised i didnt think there return would be that amazing. There isn't a bad song on this album, you can listen to it all the way through over and over again. Any fan of Coldplay and The Killers would love this album. You will not be disappointed.
The album was put together well. I think there's a handful of bands out there that stand out in 2009. It cannot be compared to previous work. One of them is The Verve. The quality of sound is obvious. These artists will always have fans who compare and bring back albums from the past. As for the present, bands like U2, Oasis, and The Verve are important and relevant in music and the human experience.
